We are proud to receive more than 1,100 entries each year from across Western Pennsylvania, as well as parts of Ohio and West Virginia.
Each year, the Golden Quills contest honors dozens of journalists and news outlets in our region for their expert storytelling and accountability work.
Maggie Jones Patterson, a journalism professor at Duquesne University, was honored with the Service to Journalism Award at the 2025 Golden Quill Awards.

Press Club to Recognize Award-winning Work
at 2026 Golden Quills Dinner
Winners will be announced at May 18 awards ceremony
The judging results are in, and finalists have been announced for The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania’s 62nd Golden Quill Awards, which recognize professional and student excellence in written, photographic, design, broadcast, audio, video and digital journalism in Western Pennsylvania and nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia.
Winners will be announced during the Golden Quills dinner and awards ceremony on Monday, May 18, at Rivers Casino Event Center, 777 Casino Drive, on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. Reservations are now closed.
That evening, the Press Club will also honor Michelle Wright, who recently retired from WTAE-TV, with its President’s Award and the Women’s Press Club of Pittsburgh with its Service to Journalism Award.
During the dinner, Kaitlyn Hughes, a student at Duquesne University, will receive the Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship and Annelise Hanson of Penn State University, the Press Club Scholarship.
